Abstracts are required of all oral and poster session presenters. Abstracts should be submitted online prior to the workshop before the abstract deadline for the 2019 workshop. For abstract formatting details, please see the help page for submitting abstracts.
We would prefer to receive your powerpoint presentations BEFORE the workshop starts but we will also accept them before your talk, preferably on a memory stick in that case.
You should practice delivering your presentation within the time allowed and leaving time for questions. The room will be equipped with a digital projector, a pointer, and a podium. A microphone may be available.
If you are going to use a PowerPoint presentation, be sure to use the menu to insert images rather than copy/paste from one application to another. If you don't, your images may not display properly (this is particularly a problem with MacIntosh computers, they will use a proprietary TIFF encoding method that PCs may not be able to read). To ensure that your presentation will not have problems, you should also try to play the file on a PC system. You must either send your PowerPoint file to the meeting chair, , by noon on the Thursday before the meeting, or save your file on a CD-ROM and bring it with you - if you choose this option and are presenting in a morning session, you must arrive before 8 am on the day of the meeting to allow us time to load your file. You will not be allowed to use your own computer as this causes too many problems and delays. If you have special needs please contact us early enough that we can help you.
Remember that the audience will get more from your talk if your slides are simple and easy to read. When projected on a standard screen all lettering and drawings should be legible from a viewing distance of at least 60 ft. A simple test of legibility is to view the original art work from a distance in feet equal to the width of the frame in inches (e.g. view a 4" x 6" graph from 6 feet away to test slide legibility). Avoid large tables of data; present data with graphs.
There is a dedicated poster session in the afternoon after the oral sessions have ended. During the poster session, presenters should be present for at least one hour. It will be helpful to others if you note at what time you will be at your poster. We also plan a more social atmosphere to facilitate more interaction at the posters. Each poster presenter is given one panel with an effective useable space of 5´ wide by 4´ high (actual panel size is 5' wide by 6' high). Each poster should include title, author(s), and affiliation. Each poster element (figure) should have a bold title; numbers or letters to indicate sequence are helpful. Presentations should be self explanatory, with an author present for embellishments or discussion. Computer displays are permitted but special arrangements must be made in advance in order to accommodate power needs. Creative and innovative posters/displays are always welcome, but check with us first. Again, if you have special needs we are happy to help as long as you provide enough time for us to accommodate you.
