| Topics for the Forum will include
most aspects of industrial minerals, with emphasis on the industrial mineral
industries and geology of the region around a Forum. The Forum is an international
meeting of industrial minerals geologists representing many countries.
Students of the earth or allied sciences with Junior through Graduate student standing will be considered. A strong inclination towards industrial minerals is necessary. Nominators are asked to fill out the attached form detailing their assessment of the student. An advisor or a professional in the field of industrial minerals are good choices for nominators. The nominated student is asked to send a letter detailing his/her background, experience iwith industrial minerals, and professional goals to the Bates Scholarship Committee. A paper presentation is welcome, but not required for nomination. The Forum Steering Committee will select a student, in consultation with the Bates Scholarship Committee, from a ranked list of applicants. The deadline for receipt of application and supporting letters for the 2003 Forum is February 1, 2003. Letters of application and support should go to: Robert L.
