Mineral Resource Evaluation of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) Site

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant is located in the Delaware basin of southeastern New Mexico, one of the most mineral- and energy-rich basins in the United States. Under a contract with the Waste Isolation Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, the NMBGMR conducted a comprehensive evaluation of potash and oil and gas resources of the WIPP land withdrawal area (16 square miles) and adjacent lands (20 square miles). The contract report was submitted on March 31, 1995. A revised report will be published on CD-ROM. The hydrocarbon resources data have been published as Circular 206; the potash resources data will be released as Circular 207. See our Publications page for prices and availability of these and other NMBGMR publications.
