During summer 2018, staff from the New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources participated the "Tech Trek" education program for girls, sponsored by the American Association of University Women, and held at New Mexico Tech. The program in the summer of 2018 involved leading a field trip to San Lorenzo Canyon with a group of 7th-grade girls who gained experience with field geology techniques. We just received at $23,690 grant from the Halliburton Foundation to expand the geoscience education component of "Tech Trek" for the 2019 summer program. The summer 2019 program will focus on porosity in natural geological environments, at a range of scales. We look forward to participating in the 2019 program and helping to get girls excited about rocks and field work.
