The New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources was established by the NM legislature of 1927. It was made a department of the NM School of Mines at Socorro, and hence its activities are supervised by the board of regents of that institution. The NM Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources was established for the primary purpose of assisting the development of the mineral resources of NM. The work of the bureau consists mainly of (1) the preparation and publication of reports dealing with NM geology and mineral resources, (2) the collection of a library and the compilation of a bibliography of the literature pertaining to NM geology, mines, and minerals, and (3) the compilation and publication of data pertaining to the mineral industry of the state.
