Circular 61—Index to samples from oil and gas well tests in library at Socorro, New Mexico, 1958 to July 1, 1961

By L. P. Blymn and S. L. Ballenger, 1962, 11 pp. Included in this series are Circulars 22, 30, 45, 88, 109, and Bulletin 73.

A collection of samples from oil and gas well tests in New Mexico by the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources was commenced shortly after its establishment in 1927. Through the years the collection has grown until, at present, samples from over 5,700 wells from all parts of New Mexico are included. Samples from cuttings and cores in the collection are indexed and readily available for study.

The collection provides a state-wide record of subsurface stratigraphy and is a permanent repository for this valuable geological material. Though only a small proportion of the field wells are represented at present, every effort has been made to secure samples from wildcat tests. New accessions are being made constantly as drilling progresses. The library will have increasing value as the search for liquid and gaseous fuels becomes more intensive. This index, in which the wells are listed by section, township, and range, was prepared as a reference catalog for the benefit of those interested in the subsurface data of New Mexico.
