New Mexico Geological Society
Fall Field Conference Guidebook - 3
Rio Grande Country, Central New Mexico
Ross B. Johnson and Charles B. Read, eds, 1952, 126 pages, (Reprinted 1996).
The New Mexico Geological Society welcomes you to its Third Field Conference. This year by way of showing you some of the diversities of New Mexico geology we wish to take you along the mountain back bone of the State which extends from the Colorado line north of Taos to El Paso, Texas Unfortunately, to traverse the entire area would be too strenuous and too time-consuming for most of our guests. In consequence, we have selected a sample from the central and perhaps the best-known part of this backbone We hope that you will enjoy your trip and the scenery and that you will find the geology both interesting and stimulating. The first day road log is from Santa Fe to Cerrillos, Madrid, Golden, San Antonio, Tijeras and Albquerque. The second day road log is from Albuquerque back to Tijeras and then on to Chilili, Tajique, Torreon, Mazano, Punta, Mountainair, Abo, Scholle, Bernardo, San Acacia, Polvadera, Lemitar and Socorro. The third day road log is from Socorro to the turnoff to Stallion Gate entrance of White Sands Missile Range, back to San Antonio, then on to Caballo and ending at Elephant Butte dam.
