Geologic map of Raton basin area in Northeast New Mexico including Tertiary (Paleogene) intrusives in the area. This map is modified from the Geologic Map of New Mexico 1:500,000 scale available through the New Mexico Bureau of Geology.
<purpose>Geologic map to depict units within the Raton basin, in particular the coal-bearing sequences and units influencing these sequences within the basin. Both the original digital map and the new geologic map were done in a Lambert Conic Projection with Clarke 1866 ellipsoid.</purpose>
<supplinf>Data was digitized from georeferenced tif image overlain on original (1997) digital New Mexico Geologic map (see metadata for EarlyCretaceous shapefile)and polygons were reattributed, essentially replacing the older maps polygons for the Raton basin. The major changes are in the Poison Canyon and Raton Formations as the older map had a transition zone. For our purposes, we eliminated this linear feature and followed the topography of the area.</supplinf>
