The topographic map coverages follow the USGS naming convention using the degrees latitude and longitude starting at the lower right hand corner of the 1:250,000 that covers the 1:24000 quad. The 1:250,000 quad covers 2 degrees of longitude and is split into east and west sections for the naming convention. As an example, the Raton 1:250,000 has and east and west half; the 7.5 minute maps in the east half start with 36104, the west half start with 36105. The east and west halves have 8 maps rows and 8 map columns. The columns are numbered 1-8 with 1 being the easternmost column; the rows are given letters, A-H and the A is the southernmost row.
