Geo_Poly

This feature class represents geologic units, water, or anthropogenic deposits (built from contacts and faults) that occupy mappable areas. These polygons are built from contacts. More detailed information about each unit is provided via a link to a lithology table.

This table is used to portray suface landforms that occupy sufficienct area to be mapped. This feature class excludes geomorphic surfaces that are handled by Surface_poly Geologic features that are too small to map as polygons can be recorded in Features_point or Geo_line. Unless a need arises, contacts of these polygons can be unattributed for now.

Attribution_poly

This feature class represents general areas of mapping data sources, both for new mapping and for compilation from previous work. This will allow construction of an index map showing data sources. Polygons should be allowed to overlap for this feature class. This might be accomplished using transparent fills or hollow patterns. Boundaries for these polygons are generic and need not have any particular symbolgy. This feature class is intended in the most general way to give the user an idea of what data sources are without resorting to feature level metadata (included elsewhere in the data model).
