Colin is a field geologist and GIS technician/spatial data analyst for the STATEMAP, Geologic Hazards, and Aquifer Mapping Programs of the New Mexico Bureau of Geology. His mapping focuses on the geologic settings of major river corridors, particularly the Rio San Jose and Rio Grande, as well as on late Cenozoic volcanic terrains including the Sierra Blanca and Mogollon-Datil volcanic fields. For the hazards program, he has worked on state-wide to site-specific studies of mass movement susceptibility and geotechnical hazard potential through geologic mapping, quantitative spatial data analysis, and geophysics. He previously worked for a consulting firm in Idaho providing geologic/hydrogeologic fieldwork and GIS/CAD support for NEPA permitting projects, hydrogeologic modeling studies, and environmental site characterization in the areas of new mine development and active mine closure, mine reclamation, and groundwater/surface water interaction studies in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Nebraska.
