Projects

  • Geologic mapping of the Socorro 1:100,000 sheet (STATEMAP program).
  • Evaluating groundwater recharge potential of selected areas along the middle Rio Grande (AquiferMap).
  • Writing up project regarding target aquifers in the middle Santa Fe Group under Rio Rancho. This involves well log data compilation and outcrop analog studies for quantifying sandstone vs. mudstone proportions in the Arroyo Ojito Formation and Cerro Conejo Formations, which will be used as a proxy to identify where this aquifer may be more productive. Construct a 3D geologic framework model under the northwestern Albuquerque basin.
  • Helping to construct a terrestrial paleoclimate record for the Espanola Basin (assisting graduate student Sianin Spaur and Jeremy Caves-Rugenstein)
  • Sedimentologic and stratigraphic study of Santa Fe Group Basin fill, in the Española and Albuquerque Basins, to understand tectonic and climatic controls on mid-late Miocene clastic deposition in an active rift setting.
  • Characterizing and understanding the structural accommodation zone between the San Luis and Española basins.
  • Deciphering the late Miocene-early Pliocene fluvial evolution of the Rio Grande.
