A Geologic Odyssey: Hypothesis


Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is deposited in the shallow subsurface after faults offset the shallow groundwater table and water flows from the upthrown block to the hanging-wall block; CaCO3 is deposited in shallow subsurface sands following evapotranspiration and loss of CO2.
