Transition from growth of free pisoids to a botryoidal cement crust is
seen in this outcrop photo-
graph of the uppermost Yates Formation. Last stages of pisoid precipitation
occurred on the
upper growth surfaces which eventually merged to form a crust of originally
aragonitic
cement. Roadside outcrop at hairpin turn on New Mexico Highway 7 in Carlsbad
Caverns
National Park, Eddy Co, New Mexico. Long axis of photo = ca. 12-15 cm.
