Reddish internal sediment in a solution-enlarged cavity in skeletal-pisolitic
strata of the basal
Tansill Formation. Red sediment consists mainly of clays and hematite and
may be an infiltrated
paleosol (age of exposure is not known). Concentration of such red sediments
in the near-back
reef facies may indicate that this zone was topographically higher than adjacent
zones.. Outcrop
on north side of Dark Canyon, less than 2 km west of the canyon mouth, Eddy
Co., NM.
Coin is 2.4 cm in diameter.
