
Selectively silicified fauna in base of slope deposits of the Capitan
Formation. The source of silica
was mainly from dissolution of siliceous sponge spicules; replaced grains
are mainly calcitic
skeletal fragments including the prominent brachiopod, Leptodus americanus,
at the left.
