View of bedding plane of Lamar Limestone (the youngest Guadalupian carbonate
in the Delaware Basin).
Note abundance of evaporite crystal casts these indicate hypersaline
conditions in the basin center
either during or immediately following Lamar sedimentation. This is also supported
by paleoecological
studies on the unit. Roadside outcrop along U.S. Highway 62-180 approximately
1 km north of
intersection with road to McKittrick Canyon, Culberson Co., Texas. Coin is
1.8 cm in diameter.
