Azerbaijan's 1921-22 single-color Bibi Eibatt oil field
stamp (above) was surcharged and overprinted several times
during the 1922-23 period to meet new postal rates
and accomodate new postal authorities during
this turbulent period (below).

The 15,000-Ruble, 50,000-Ruble, and 500-Ruble surcharges
(above) were handstamped from metal dies in a numbering machine.

An example of the common inversion of a handstamped surcharge (above).

Three examples of handstamped overprints from the 1922-24 period
validating the stamps for use in the Baku Province. The first
indicates the Baku Post Office; the second is from the
Baku Telegraph Office No. 1; and the third may be
privately produced for use in the area. Counter-
feits are common and it is very hard to get
such stamps expertized because even
the experts commonly disagree
on their authenticity.
