The world's first stamp to depict an oil field
as its primary theme (above) was issued
in 1921-22 by the Azerbaijan S.S.R. It
was released only in imperforate form and
shows the Bibi Eibatt oil field near Baku.
Because of the crude block printing,
individual stamps show small
variations, some of which can
be seen in in the block below.

A similar, but more detailed, oil field scene from
the same area was depicted on a privately-
printed stamp (see below) that was produced
in both perforate and imperforate forms.
These stamps are thought to have been
printed in Vienna, Austria, in about 1923.
