Examples of stamps overprinted for other uses:

British stamps overprinted "SHELL-MEX
and B.P. LTD." presumably to mark
these stamps as restricted for corporate
use (similar to corporate perfins).

This Norwegian stamp (left) depicting a WWII tanker
convoy was overprinted by letterpress "London , 17/5/43"
along with a handstamped metal die serial number (right).
Only 4,000 of the overprinted stamps were produced and sold
in order to raise funds for the resistance forces in
exile in Britain.
