An artist-signed die proof for Congo's offshore Pointe Noir production platform.
stamp This proof was made from the unhardened original engraved steel die
as
can be seen from the fact that it was left slightly incomplete (note absence of
the artist's name at the bottom right). Less than 30 such prints can be made
from an unhardened die without noticeable wear to the die. Typically about
25-28 such proofs in various single colors (including black) were made for
French-African issues. The embossed seal of the French Government printing
office is seen at the lower left and the artist's signature at center-right.
