An example of a printed stamp essay that was
never actually produced in this form. The
essay consists of imperforate prints (with mock
perforations) of a single design executed in two
different colors and mounted on a cardboard
sheet. It was produced by the Swiss printer,
Courvoisier, for a 1965 Iraqi stamp that
commemorated the 1962 opening of a
deep-water oil terminal near Basra. The
final stamp
, shown below, had a rather
different design and was printed by
the German Printing Office in Berlin.
This essay may represent one of a
series of essay designs submitted by
printers competing for the contract
to print this stamp.
