Multicolored issues require a separate die (and printing plate) for
each primary color. Trial
color proofs are produced to check registration of the designs on the separate
plates. This
example of a combination print of the black, magenta and yellow plates
shows very
significant misregistration of the yellow plate. A later full-color proof
(below) shows
corrected registration. The printed stamps are shown at bottom for comparison.
