This unique acrylic painting on art-board above was used as the source for the 1969 Qatari
stamp shown below. It depicts an offshore drilling rig, the "Seashell", and a supply
boat, the "Shell Dolphin" (later renamed "Alexander I"). The lettering is on a mylar
overlay above the painting —
because it differs slightly from the lettering on the
final stamp in size and opacity, this technically is an essay rather than a proof
.
