Three sketches, found as photocopies in the printer's files, show the
intermediate stages of design of this 1988 petro-stamp from Tonga.
The stamp design has changed substantially from the original essay,
but the stamp still is the high-denomination of the set of four. The
vignette sketches included here substitute for photographs that had
already been selected for the design of this issue — one of those
photographs was inserted into the sketches below.
