Petroleum-related
Stamp
s of the World

Collecting petroleum-related stamps and associated materials seems like a pretty limited hobby, but it turns out that there are literally thousands of such stamps and an unlimited number of associated covers, cancellations, letters and other collectible items.. One can also collect the original engravings, painting and photographs that were used to produce the stamps, trial (proof) or specimen versions that were made during the design and printing phases of stamp production, or errors that occurred in the course of printing. I've provided images of some of the more attractive or instructive examples of many of these areas of petro-stamp collecting. Alas, many of these illustrations are from sources other than my collection, so if you have petroleum-related stocks or bonds that you would like to sell or trade, please contact me at: scholle1@nmt.edu.

If you are interested in collecting petroleum stamps or related items, several collector societies exist. The largest of these, the Petroleum Philatelic Society International (PPSI), publishes a checklist of petroleum stamps along with a quarterly journal providing more in-depth information on "oily" stamps, covers and related items. For information on membership, you can contact their secretary or treasurer:

This site contains illustrated checklists of stamps and covers as well as topical articles for advanced collectors. Illustration-rich files are provided in two versions: FAST LOAD files that are small, easy to load via modem connections, but require you to click on links to each individual illustration, and SLOW LOAD files that have the illustrations already visible, are easier to print with illustrations showing, but will take a long time to load over a modem connection.
