Geologic data that is measured at a specific location, or a feature that doesn't occupy enough space to be mapped as a line or polygon, is best represented as point data. Some point data, like fault and fold data, is topologically related to mapped features. Some point data, like fault slickenlines, is stored as a single record with the planar data it is measured with.
