The New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources is seeking a Production Editor for our publications program. We are a research and service division of New Mexico Tech (NMT) in Socorro, NM that acts as the geologic survey for the state. Since 1927, publishing geoscience research and information has been an integral part of our mission to inform the professional geologic community, the general public, and decision-makers about the diverse geology of New Mexico. Our current publications program includes three periodicals, technical publications, map products, and general interest publications such as: Scenic Trips to the Geologic Past, Decision Makers field guides, river guides, and books like our popular title The Geology of Northern New Mexico’s Parks, Monuments, and Public Lands. These materials are published in a wide variety of formats.
The publications program is a small collaborating team and serves a staff of approximately 55 employees, and scientists from outside the bureau. This editor needs to have a complete knowledge of the steps and processes involved in publications and design, including layout and production of various printed and electronic publications but, not given that this is an intermediate position, training will be provided where expertise gaps exist. Applicants must know Adobe CC software including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, as well as MS word and PPT, the use of internet technologies, and experience working with web pages is desired. NM state driver’s license required.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in the Sciences, Technical Communication, English, or related fields. Three to five years of work experience as a Production Editor desired. Candidates must be able to present their visual communication design projects. In addition, candidates must have strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
