This position will support the manager of the New Mexico Tech Seismological Observatory with the goal of documenting and understanding seismicity occurring in New Mexico. Duties include: use computer software to locate seismic events occurring in the Delaware Basin and other parts of New Mexico on a daily basis. Help carry out field work related to seismic monitoring in New Mexico. Assist with maintenance of computer software for locating earthquakes. This position will have opportunities to participate in research related to seismicity in New Mexico. Position is contingent on continued contract support.
Master’s degree in geophysics/seismology or related area required. Knowledge of Linux/Unix required. Principles of earthquake seismology required. Familiarity with seismology programs: SAC, Seiscomp, Earthworm, GMT desired. Matlab, Python, or any programming language desired. Experience with seismic equipment and fieldwork desired.
