The New Mexico Bureau of Geology is looking for a hydrogeologist to join the Aquifer Mapping team in Socorro, NM. One of the key responsibilities for this position is ensuring the continued success of the Collaborative Groundwater Monitoring Network, which measures groundwater across the state through both manual measurements, and acoustic and pressure transducer data loggers. The candidate should feel comfortable collecting water quality samples, measuring depth to water and other field parameters, and the maintenance of the data collecting equipment. An equally important role is the analysis of the data collected to support regional groundwater studies and summarizing these results in open-file reports and public presentations. This work will integrate into 3D aquifer maps, groundwater cycle and water balance analysis, and support for municipalities and water operators to manage their resources. Familiarity with GIS is a plus to support the creation of field maps and report figures.
Bachelor’s Degree required with 5 years hydrogeology professional experience OR Master’s Degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, or earth science with hydrology emphasis. Competent in scientific / technical writing, data management & analysis, and presentation of results required. Academic or equivalent work experience in interpretation of geologic, hydrologic and/or water quality data required. Able to work independently in remote areas and under adverse conditions required. Ability to communicate with the public and convey geologic and hydrologic principles to the lay person required. NM Driver’s license and ability to get NMT driver&'s certification required.
