We are seeking a motivated candidate who is interested in conducting research using our new MRI NSF funded Horiba Labram HR Evolution confocal Raman microscope. The instrument will be equipped with a 532 nm laser and a 266 nm UV laser and be compatible with a variety of experimental stages including a Linkam fluid inclusion heating/cooling stage and a hydrothermal diamond anvil cell. This position will be hosted at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources at NMT and supervised by Dr. Hurtig (NMT). The expected start date is October 4th (https://www.nmt.edu/hr/employment.php). The position is appointed initially for 12 months and renewable each year contingent upon satisfactory progress for up to three years and may be converted into to a regular research associate position upon successful establishment of the cost center. A strong background in Raman spectroscopy and experience with independent instrument handling is desired. This position will provide technical support for the new confocal Raman microscope and be involved in the development of new methods collaborating with a broad group of researchers at New Mexico Tech as well as researchers from LANL. Funding is available for additional instrument training in the first three years of the project. As part of the technical support position, this person will be involved in creating and operating a cost center for the new instrument in collaboration with the main PI Dr. Hurtig. The position is at the postdoctoral level, which also means the person will be actively involved in research, writing publications, and presenting results at conferences. This position will interact with NMT students and contribute towards outreach projects involving the local mineralogy community and K-12 school programs. For question about this position please contact Dr. Nicole Hurtig (firstname.lastname@example.org). Applicants are expected to submit a CV, academic transcripts, a letter of interest and three reference letters. The letter should clearly explain your previous research experience, career goals, and your interest in this position. The position posting will remain open until filled and we will start interviewing candidates immediately.
