Why NMBGMR?
A Culture of Support, Collaboration, and Exploration
What I like most about working at the Bureau of Geology is collaborating with smart, driven scientists who care deeply about their work. Every interaction with my colleagues is an opportunity to learn something new.
We get to work with a diverse team of professionals with different research interests, backgrounds and expertise.
I took advantage of the ability to take classes at NMT, and my supervisor was supportive and helped me balance working full-time and taking a class.
One of my favorite parts of working at the Bureau are my Bureau colleagues. Not only are they world-class scientists and fun to work with, but they really care about my professional development as well as my interests outside of work.
The location of the state geological survey within a university setting provides excellent research, outreach and educational collaboration opportunities with NMT and national laboratories.
Throughout my career at the Bureau, I have had the chance to work on a wide variety of projects. I very much value the freedom that I have had to explore new opportunities. The thing that I like best about working at the Bureau is the people. It's like one big happy family.
You're a part of a great geoscience community at NMT. In addition to the Bureau staff, there are the EES Department faculty, students, and active retirees, researchers at the PRRC, and staff at Earthscope. It's easy to find colleagues with similar interests who want to work with you.
Everyone at the Bureau is genuine and supportive, and the incredible work that we all do here is always recognized.
I've travelled throughout the state, the American Southwest, and even across the world doing my job. I've gotten to summit peaks, fly drones, and raft rivers while working. Some of the things I do for work are what other people do on vacation!
Our new office space at the Bureau of Geology and campus community has been the best of places I've ever worked. It's nice to get out for a walk around a college campus at lunch, or take a yoga class in the evening.
Multiple professional development opportunities, free credits for classes at NMT and retirement benefits are a few of the additional perks available to help us grow professionally and build our careers.
Every day is casual Friday at the Bureau.
We have most of what we need right here in Socorro, including meeting spaces, vehicles, and world-class laboratories and mineral museum.
