The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) is the geological survey for the state of New Mexico and a research and service division of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT). NMBGMR employees are part of a dedicated team that serves a broad audience—from engaging elementary school students in science to supporting industry experts and academic researchers. Through our research, publications, and community outreach, our staff makes meaningful contributions to the understanding and responsible management of New Mexico's geologic resources. Living in New Mexico

Located in the colorful and historic Rio Grande valley, Socorro, New Mexico, is a close-knit and welcoming community. NMBGMR is located in a state-of-the-art building constructed in 2014 with fully equipped laboratories, offices, and classrooms. New Mexico Tech has a beautifully landscaped green campus and an adjacent 18-hole championship golf course. The campus sits at the foothills of the "M" Mountain and has easy access to rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, star gazing, and many more outdoor activities.

Albuquerque, New Mexico's largest city, is one hour away by car, and Santa Fe, the state capital, is two hours away. Numerous other attractions—from ski resorts to National Parks to ancient cultural sites—are within easy driving distance.
