Wednesday, March 7, 2007: Field Trip

Major Theme - Geologic Controls on Surface and Ground Waters
  • This trip is intended to be informal and to foster discussion - all levels of knowledge and participation are welcome! We will stop at a number of outcrops and overlooks. Contributions from USGS, NMBGMR, and possibly other researchers on the following topics will be presented.
  • The Architecture, Potential Permeability Structure, and Geochemistry of Fault Zones:
Faults in Proterozoic, Phanerozoic, and Tertiary aquifer materials
  • The Mountain Front-Basin Interface:
Is it a fault, series of faults, sedimentary contact, all of the above? Is it a significant hydrogeological heterogeneity?
  • Cerros del Rio Volcanic Field:
Geological and hydrogeological features of the Black Rocks area and the southern end of the Española basin.
