Bureau Associate Director for Hydrogeology Programs Stacy Timmons is presenting a technical talk "Modernizing State Water Data in New Mexico" for the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association on Wednesday April 21 from 12:00-1:00 pm MDT.

In 2019, the Water Data Act legislation was passed, making New Mexico the 2nd state in
the nation to set state policy on providing open and accessible water data. Working with a limited budget
and numerous legacy data issues, New Mexico is forging a path ahead, working with state agencies, plus
national, regional, and municipal data collaborators. In this presentation, Stacy will provide background
on how and why this legislation came to be, how the New Mexico Water Data Initiative is being built,
with some updates on successes and challenges.
