The article published by CBS News “Nature up close: An unexpected gem of a museum” discusses the Mineral Museum as a worthwhile visit. Indeed, “Sunday Morning” contributing videographer Judy Lehmberg describes the museum as, “…a crystal palace of mineral specimens…” The article details not only the spectacular specimens displayed, but delves into the many types of minerals and ways that they form.
The world-class exhibits at the museum feature minerals from across the state and around the world. Over 5,000 specimens are displayed in the main gallery, with specimens from many mining districts New Mexico. Indeed, the museum recently welcomed a new temporary exhibit on the Trinity Site, as well as a large amethyst “igloo” geode from Brazil now installed in the main atrium of the Bureau’s building.
The museum is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., so be sure to stop by and view the new acquisitions.
