Bureau hydrogeology study covered by Taos News articles

September 12, 2016

A Taos News article by J.R. Logan titled: "Study says there may be limits to sustainable growth south of Taos" summarizes the results and implications of Open-file Report 581, Hydrogeologic investigation of the southern Taos Valley, Taos County, New Mexico, by P.S. Johnson, P.W. Bauer, and B. Felix, 2016.

Another Taos News article by Meg Scherch Peterson references the same report and is titled: "Mineral monsters, skanky rocks and crazy egg cartons – welcome to Taos’ aquifers". This article discusses the unsual geochemistry of confined deep aquifers in the southern Taos Valley. Mineralized waters rapidly occluded a well in the area at a depth of 3200 feet with what appears to be zinc carbonate.
