On September 8, 2016 Dr. Dan Lopez, former NM Tech president, was inducted into the NM Mining Hall of Fame at the New Mexico Mining Association (NMMA) Annual Meeting in Santa Fe. Throughout his tenure as president, Dr. Lopez promoted teaching of students training for careers in the mining industry by supporting the Minerals Engineering Department and the NM Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. He also served on the NMMA Board of Directors.
The NMMA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals or companies that have dedicated themselves to the mining industry in New Mexico. Inductees are nominated by their peers and voted on by the Board of Directors of the NMMA. The honor was established in 2004.
