GEOLOGY OF THE RUIDOSO AREA, LINCOLN AND OTERO COUNTIES, NEW MEXICO NMBGMR OPEN-FILE REPORT 507 2012 - Latest Revision February 2014 Geologic mapping, compilation, and digital cartography by Geoffrey C. Rawling Field Geologist New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources 2808 Central Avenue SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106-2245 Phone: (505) 366-2535 FAX: (505) 366-2559 email: geoff@gis.nmt.edu http://geoinfo.nmt.edu/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This work was performed under the STATEMAP component of the USGS National Cooperative Mapping Program. Funding was provided by the U.S. Geological Survey, the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (a division of New Mexico Tech), and the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This CD contains digital geologic data for the Angus, Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, and Fort Stanton quadrangles in Lincoln and Otero Counties, New Mexico. Data for each quadrangle is in a folder with the quadrangle name. There are two map files, one for the compilation map of all four quadrangles with a topographic map base and one for the cross-sections. Map data is included in geodatabase format. MXD map files use the geodatabase data and were created with ArcGIS 10. Pdf files of the map and cross sections are are also included. The data model folder contains html files explaining the schema of the NMBGMR digital geologic map data model. Click on the "home" html file to start. Detailed descriptions of the latest version of the data model are also available at http://geoinfo.nmt.edu/statemap/datamodel/home.html Digital geologic data is contained in compressed geodatabases. These need to be expanded with a file compression utility prior to use in ArcGIS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data depicted on this geologic map are based on field geologic mapping, compilation of published work, and photogeologic interpretation. Locations of contacts are not surveyed, but are plotted by interpretation of the position of a given contact onto a topographic base map; therefore, the accuracy of contact locations depends on the scale of mapping and the interpretation of the geologists involved. The views and conclusions contained in this document are those of the author and should not be interpreted as necessarily representing the official policies, either expressed or implied, of the State of New Mexico, or the U.S. Government. Reference to any specific commercial product, process, or service by trade name, trademark, manufacturer, or otherwise does not constitute or imply its endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by the The State of New Mexico or any agency thereof. Cross-sections are constructed based upon the interpretations of the author made from geologic mapping and subsurface (drillhole) data. Cross-sections should be used as an aid to understanding the general geologic framework of the map area, and not be the sole source of information for use in locating or designing wells, buildings, roads, or other man-made structures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Please cite this works as follows: Rawling, G.C., 2012, Geology of the Ruidoso Area, Lincoln and Otero Counties, New Mexico, New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, Open-file Report OFR-507, scale 1:24000 (revised 2014).
