The arid Jornada del Muerto south of Spaceport America, looking east, with treeless desert grassland and mesquite shrubs. The line of mesquite in the middle ground marks the narrow floodplain of the ephemeral Jornada Draw, the principal drainage of the closed basin. The distant San Andres Mountains form the eastern margin of the Jornada del Muerto; late Pleistocene piedmont alluvium dominates the surficial geology. Photo by S.A. Hall, December 2, 2010
