Search

Enter search term(s) or phrases in the box below. You can use AND, NOT, OR and '+' or '-' as well as parentheses and quotation marks to refine your search (see below). You can limit your search to particular New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) sites or to just publications or maps. There is also a separate publications inventory search that allows you to specify series, author, title and other attributes. Unlike this search, the inventory search does not include full-text searches of webpages, PDFs, and other documents. You may also want to search using our Geologic Bibliography for New Mexico.

Search Expressions

This search is similar to internet search engines you may be familiar with (like Google). Multiple words separated by spaces will find documents containing all search terms (an AND operator is assumed). If you wish to find documents that contain any of a number of search terms, add an OR between them. Alternatively, a term preceeded by a '+' will be specifically included in the results while a term preceeded by a '-' will be excluded. The following search expression tips may be helpful:

  • Searches are case insensitive.
  • You can use plain language (the search engine will extract the relevant words) but it might have a large number of results. Example: How old is the Valle Grande? (but leave off the ?—see below)
  • If you want to search for an exact phrase, enclose it in either single or double quotes.
    Example: "santa fe group"
  • You can use AND, NOT, and OR to refine conditions to meet (note: white space not within a quoted phrase or commas are assumed to be a logical AND). Example: "santa fe group" OR "basin fill"
  • If you need to explicitly include or exclude a word from the search results, precede the word immediately with a '+' or '-' sign. Example: "santa fe group" OR "basin fill" +Taos -Colorado
  • The search algorithm will automatically stem common search terms (including words in phrases) by adding/removing word suffixes like 'ing', 's', and 'ly'.
