Mark Mansell is a GIS Specialist II for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources where he has worked since January, 1996. Prior to his coming to the Bureau of Geology, Mark was a student at New Mexico Tech where he studied Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science while working at the Bureau of Geology as a student tech support/helpdesk specialist. Mark's day to day activities now include support of a wide range of Bureau Projects using GIS software such as Arc/Info, Global Mapper, and Safesoft's FME to build and maintain GIS databases, and to analyze the spatial and non-spatial information in them. Over the years, much of his work has been concerned with the compiling of geologic data to be used in creating geologic maps for the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (STATEMAP) but he has more recently been involved in the development and launch of our new WebMap application (interactive map) as well as a study on geohazards, including collapsible soils and landslides. He also works with Information Technology staff on maintaining our in house ArcServer.
