JOB SUMMARY: This Hydrogeologist position will support the Aquifer Mapping Program at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology in their mission to characterize the aquifers and groundwater resources across the state of NM. Primary responsibilities will include supporting and conducting hydrologic research and providing scientific and technical support for a variety of regional and statewide hydrogeologic studies. This position will be responsible for collecting data and publishing the results from this research as well as presenting at public conferences. Experience leading or supporting field data collection of groundwater level measurements, well drilling, collecting geophysical data, and water chemistry sampling is desired. Position is partially supported by soft money contracts; position is contingent on continued contract awards.

JOBS FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop interpretations and characterizations of New Mexico aquifers using existing and new data, such as utilizing geologic, hydrologic, geochemical, and geophysical data. 40%
  • Prepare technical reports and maps to accompany hydrogeologic research; publish hydrogeologic research in appropriate outlets. 20% Create maps in GIS or other software to include in reports and presentations. 20%
  • Collect data in the field, organize and manage data for hydrogeologic projects. Field work may include measuring groundwater levels, water chemistry sampling, geophysical data collection, drilling wells. 20%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Earth Sciences. Basic computing and data entry skills. Comfort speaking to both scientific and non-scientific public on a daily basis. Ability to work well with others and as part of a team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Earth Sciences. GIS and other modeling software. Groundwater research skills and data collection methods, geophysical data collection / processing.
