The USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) has provided funding for three NMT undergraduate students to complete three priority projects under the supervision of Phil Miller (Project 1) and Amy Trivitt-Kracke (Projects 2 & 3):
- Project 1 inovolves converting 12-15 Bureau GIS maps to NCGMP09 (GeMS) format. The data from this conversion will be uploaded to the the Bureau website and links will also be uploaded to the National Geologic Map Database.
- Project 2 will scan and geo-locate about 2000 historical mine documents.
- Project 3 is a new pilot program offered by NGGDPP. For this project we will be scanning and uploading petrographic slide images to the National Digital Catalog. This will allow the Bureau to serve large sized photos of slides creating an unique view of our state for scientists to use.
