Between May 1987 and May 1990, 50 oil and gas exploration wells were analyzed during the statewide Petroleum Source-Rock Project. Analyses on selected samples from these wells provide important data concerning the identification and evaluation of petroleum source units in the Paleozoic and Mesozoic stratigraphic section of New Mexico. We continually add source rock analyses as data become available. This information on the generation and preservation of oil and gas is one of the most fundamental considerations in selection of prospective drilling sites in frontier exploration areas. Analytical data for each well and a list of these wells are now available on CD-ROM. Ron Broadhead is the project manager.
