Full Stack Web Developer

JOB SUMMARY:
The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR), a research division of New Mexico Tech (NMT), is the geological survey for the state. Located on the NMT campus in Socorro, New Mexico, our non-regulatory agency is a preeminent research organization dedicated to better understanding New Mexico’s natural resources and the earth processes that impact our state’s economy and communities.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual passionate about connecting our broad audience of stakeholders to our science via our website and our data services. Our Data Services team collaborates with our staff scientists and program leaders to produce attractive and accessible content. Communication skills in a team environment are essential to accomplish these tasks, advance the program, and improve our delivery methods. Applicants should be able to problem-solve or collaborate with a team of specialists to solve issues related to delivering information and data to the public.

This position provides full-stack web development services for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR). This includes but is not limited to managing NMBGMR’s web presence and working with the software development team to maintain and implement existing and new web applications.

JOBS FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain the NMBGMR web server. 10%
  • Collaborate with staff to keep web pages current, informative and attractive. 50%
  • Develop new content and web applications. 30%
  • Maintain the NMGS website. 10%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Read and comprehend instructions, write information and complete simple forms. High School (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, composition and math. Bachelor's Degree in IT, Web development, or related field. May substitute degree with professional experience and/or industry certifications. 5-Years of Work Experience. Extensive experience with full stack web application development using ColdFusion, Java, Python, PHP, Node.js, or similar server-side languages, strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery (or other JS frameworks) and RDMS experience (MySQL, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.). Strong application troubleshooting and debugging skills. Experience managing large websites including e-commerce systems. Strong organizational skills, good verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing experience. An outgoing personality and ability to work closely with a wide variety of people.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Adobe web development experience, including Coldfusion and Dreamweaver. Experience with CSS frameworks like Bootstrap, Foundation, etc, and CSS preprocessors like SASS or LESS. Comfortable maintaining IIS, Apache, NGNIX, or other web server software. Experience with implementation of section 508 standards for web applications. Geology or other natural science background.
