Water Data Scientist / Developer-Full Stack
— Socorro, NM
This position is for a mid-stack software developer primarily focused on building and maintaining cloud-based software tools for water data management and ETL. This position will support the Aquifer Mapping and Water Data programs at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology, and will work with modern APIs and other data sources both from within the Bureau of Geology and external agencies to make water data available for visualizations. This position is 1 year, full time regular limited term, with potential to continue based on future grants and funding. Remote work is acceptable in this position.
Water Data Scientist / Developer-Front End

This position is for a front-end software developer primarily focused on building web applications to visualize and manage water data. This position will support the Aquifer Mapping and Water Data programs at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology, and will work with external partners to design web applications that meet water data sharing needs.
Qualified candidates will be expected to have a working knowledge of web technologies such as HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript and a basic understanding of user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design. Duties will include turning wireframes and mock-ups into reusable code and building high-quality UI components with scalability in mind. This position is 1 year, full time regular limited term, with potential to continue based on future grants and funding. Remote work is acceptable in this position
Water Data Scientist / Integrator

The ideal candidate for this position will use their knowledge of water data in New Mexico to support the Aquifer Mapping and Water Data programs at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology. This position will work primarily for the multi-agency Water Data Initiative – using modern data skills typical of a data scientist. This position is 1 year, full time regular limited term, with potential to continue based on future grants and funding. Remote work is acceptable in this position.
Manager - NMT Seismological Observatory
— Socorro, NM
Manage and maintain a seismic network of approximately 25 stations throughout the state of New Mexico, including field equipment, networking components, computer processing systems, and permits. Write funding proposals and participate in research related to seismicity in NM, collaborating with researchers in NM and other states. Communicate information about earthquakes in New Mexico to stakeholders and the general public through websites, educational outreach, publication of relevant research, and answering media requests. Act as the Bureau's point of contact and organizational lead by coordinating the Bureau's response to seismic events in the state. Supervise students and employees to assist with above tasks.
Field Geologist
— Socorro, NM
The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources seeks a qualified geologist to join our Geologic Mapping Program. Applicants with the aptitude and technical skills to manage fieldwork, data, and databases as part of each project, and a strong desire to conduced field-based geologic mapping in NM are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will participate as a team member in multiple mapping projects, and work with senior geologists and researchers in generating maps, associated data, and ensure geologic and geospatial data is collected to program specifications and national mapping standards. Duties may include (but are not limited to): extensive field mapping, utilizing GIS software, use of graphic design programs, use of database software, and technical writing of reports, manuscripts, and articles for scientists, decision-makers, and the general public.
Senior Geochronologist

Direct the operation of the New Mexico Geochronology Research Laboratory. Duties revolve around all aspects of operating a successful geochronology laboratory and a vibrant research program. Specific laboratory duties are directing and participating in data collection and interpretation and supervising laboratory staff, budgets and grants and contracts. The Director will promote a strong academic mission and scientific program that serves the citizens of New Mexico and the nation. The Director will engage in the boarder geochronology community by participating in national and international decision making events that shape future directions of geochronology funding and policy. The Director will ensure broad scientific collaboration of the laboratory towards making geochronology data available to multiple consumers. The Director will be an engaged citizen of NM Tech by serving on Bureau and NMT committees and potentially state and national boards or panels.
Geochronologist

The Geochronologist will share responsibilities for the operation of the New Mexico Geochronology Research Laboratory. Duties revolve around all aspects of operating a successful geochronology laboratory coupled with a vibrant research program. Specific laboratory duties are data collection and interpretation and sharing responsibilities for supervision of Argon Lab Associate, laboratory student employees, budgets and grants and contracts. The Geochronologist will promote a strong academic mission and scientific program that serves the citizens of New Mexico and the nation while participating in the boarder geochronology community at national and international decision making events that shape future directions of geochronology funding and policy. The Geochronologist will ensure broad scientific collaboration of the laboratory towards making geochronology data available to multiple consumers and will be an engaged citizen of NM Tech by serving on Bureau and NMT committees and potentially state and national boards or panels.
Scientific Illustrator
— Socorro, NM
The Scientific Illustrator will produce digital geologic maps, cartographic illustrations, scientific figures, and graphics—primarily utilizing ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator—in collaboration with Bureau scientists, staff, and external contributors. You may also be tasked with producing additional graphics for slides, posters, displays, and presentations to support Bureau research, promotional, and administrative initiatives.
