Student Support
Through both teaching and financial resources the Bureau of Geology has a long and rich record of graduate and undergraduate student support. Currently the Bureau has approximately 20 staff members that have adjunct appointments at New Mexico Tech (NMT) with most serving in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (E&ES). Our adjuncts teach many courses and serve on several graduate student committees and often act as lead research advisors. Bureau adjuncts obtain grants and contracts to fund graduate and undergraduate research that fulfills one of our core missions of enhancing education and advancing geological knowledge of the state.
In any given year the we directly support about 5 graduate students and often more depending upon availability of funding. Currently our general fund encumbers $50,000/year to support graduate research assistantships, and as part of this, supports the Kottlowski/Bureau Fellowship. Bureau of Geology scientists collaborate with many of the NMT E&ES faculty members and their students as well as faculty and students from the other New Mexico Universities.
We have compiled a list of all the students that we currently support as well as our former students over the years. If there are corrections or additions that should be made to these lists, please contact Nelia Dunbar.
