Full Text Publications Search
Enter search term(s) or phrases in the box below. You can use AND, NOT, OR and '+' or '-' as well as parentheses and quotation marks to refine your search (see below). You can limit your search to particular Bureau of Geology sites or to just publications or maps. There is also a separate publications inventory search that allows you to specify series, author, title and other attributes. Unlike this search, the inventory search does not include full-text searches of webpages, PDFs, and other documents.

Search Expressions
This search is similar to internet search engines you may be familiar with (like Google). Multiple words separated by spaces will find documents with either or both terms (an OR operator is assumed)—but documents with both terms will appear first in the results. The following search expression tips may be helpful:
- Searches are case insensitive except when the search term is entered with mixed case.
- You can use plain language (the search engine will extract the relevant words) but it might have a large number of results. Example: How old is the Valle Grande? (but leave off the ?—see below)
- If you want to search for an exact phrase, enclose it in either single or double quotes.
Example: "santa fe group" - You can use AND, NOT, and OR to refine conditions to meet (note: white space or commas are assumed to be a logical OR). Example: "santa fe group" OR "basin fill"
- If you need to explicitly include or exclude a word from the search results, precede the word immediately with a '+' or '-' sign. Example: "santa fe group" OR "basin fill" +Taos -Colorado
- The search algorithm will automatically stem common search terms (including words in phrases) by adding/removing word suffixes like 'ing', 's', and 'ly'.
- You can use wildcards to refine searches for less common words: A single asterisk (*) represents any number of any character(s) and a single question mark (?) represents any single character.
For example: "tecton*" will return documents with any word beginning with "tecton" like tectonic, tectonics, or tectonism.
