Geothermal Research Associate

JOB SUMMARY: The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR), a research division of New Mexico Tech (NMT), is the state's geological survey. Located on the NMT campus in Socorro, New Mexico, our nonregulatory agency is a preeminent research organization dedicated to better understanding New Mexico’s natural resources and the earth processes that impact our state’s economy and communities. The associate will be responsible for organizing workshops and other educational events designed to encourage the development of geothermal resources in New Mexico. The associate will assist with the collection and interpretation of geophysical data to identify and characterize additional deep geothermal resources in New Mexico. The research associate will also assist in identifying funding for geothermal development in New Mexico, write grant applications, and assist the manager of the geothermal program with project administration. The position is a full-time, salaried position with benefits, funded through June of 2027 with the potential for extension, pending funding availability.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Geoscience or Geophysics or Engineering. Experience in subsurface research. Experience in geophysical fieldwork and data interpretation. Organization of outreach activities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or other doctorate level equivalent in Geoscience or Geophysics or Engineering. Project management experience. Maintain an existing web page as part of outreach.
