About this image

The Rio Grande is the largest river in New Mexico and provides a source of water for a large proportion of the population of our arid state. Here the Rio Grande flows through the village of Pilar. The Tres Orejas volcanoes are on the left-center skyline, the Taos Range is on the distant right-center skyline and the Picuris Range is on the high-right skyline. Large toreva blocks are visible in the gorge on the left side of the image.

Pilar, is south of Taos, NM and is a popular destination for whitewater rafting and kayaking.
